An Adventure Through Books: Great Yarmouth Primary Academy’s Engaging Reading Challenges
Back
Great Yarmouth Primary Academy is dedicated to fostering a love for reading for its pupils, through an engaging and rewarding reading initiative.
By introducing regular reading challenges for KS1 and KS2 students, the school motivates children to read at home, promoting the joy and benefits of reading for pleasure. This initiative not only encourages consistent reading habits but also rewards pupils with stamps, certificates, and reading badges, making the experience both fun and fulfilling.
Every term Great Yarmouth Primary Academy introduces a new reading challenge for KS1 and KS2 where pupils are rewarded for regular reading at home. In each challenge, pupils earn a stamp for a number of entries in their reading record. If they collect all of their stamps, children are entered into our raffle where they can win a £5, £10 or £15 voucher.
In addition to being entered into the draw, pupils also take home a certificate and their reading badge. In KS1, the reading badges related directly to the theme of the challenge and in KS2, children get to choose from a selection of book characters.
Challenges across the year include:
KS1 – Pupils work towards each of these goals - they get a step closer every time they earn a stamp from reading at home.
- Reach the moon
- Climb the beanstalk
- Find the buried treasure
KS2
- Complete the team - as pupils collect their stamps, they get to add players to their football team
- The Space Race - pupils move to another planet in the solar system after collecting a stamp
- World Explorers - there are eight famous landmarks that pupils need to 'visit' by earning their stamps
